Hiking Revived!
After the AT section hike I did this spring, my focus seemed to suddenly turned to things at home. My mother in law could no longer stay at home by herself. While we as a family pondered the best course of action for her, she developed atrial fibrillation and was put in the hospital. Then rehab followed at a local nursing home. This gave us time to decide what was in her best interests. It was in our hearts to bring her home. I’ve been a long term care and hospice nurse for years. My desire has always been to care for my parents once they came to the point in their lives they needed my expertise. My husband Kenneth is a wonderful guy who has a heart of caring for others as well.
We made the decision to give up the apartment and move into her home of 57 years so she could come home, be cared for by her family, caregivers, and friends. We believed this was the best decision for her, even though it was a sacrifice for us. After 6 weeks of rehab, we brought her home. Our new journey of full time caregivers began July 31. We are grateful for the love and support we are receiving to make this possible! God always supplies the grace to do what He’s asked us to do. God is so faithful and so good. How He cares for us! He uses us to care for others and show them the love of Jesus.
“No greater love is there than laying down one’s life for his friends ( or family). “. John 15:13. Paraphrased.
Back to hiking 🥾 It’s been almost 3 months since I’ve done any major day hiking. Nothing but flat ground here. I am attempting to get out each day for a walk, but it is seldom more than a mile or two. I gave this all to the Lord, knowing that getting moved and established in my MIL’s home was priority.
Suddenly, however, the hiking switch got flipped back on! 💡 I felt impressed to start going to our WHHB hikes and have some of my own, even overnights once again. 👏 Also, this week I received two invitations to speak again on hiking and backpacking.
Wow! God knows our hearts. 💕
If we seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, all these other things will be added. With priorities straight and hearts open to His leading one has the keys to following the plan He has for us. It’s a good plan! A great plan! And in it are treasures not just in heaven but blessings on this earth too. He gives us all things richly to enjoy!
God bless you as you seek Him. If you seek Him, you will find Him. He’s closer than the mention of His Name. Finding His plan is always the best way to go. You’ve been designed to fulfill it. Let’s do it!
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
