AT Section hike 2026 May 11 zero day at Weary 🦶 🦶Feet Hostel

A zero day is when one does no hiking. Zero. Nada. It’s good to rest and not be out in in-climate weather, as it is today. Rain continues to pour outside the hostel, since 5 am this morning and not letting up. It is in the low 50s, a very cold rain. Hikers are coming in and have filled up the place. Not only are the private and indoor and outdoor bunks filled, but now 2 couches. It’s supposed to get in the low 40s tonight. It would be pretty miserable sleeping outside in already wet clothes and gear. Glad to have these hostels! The people are kind and accommodating. Nice hot showers brings a person back to feeling human again. This place serves the best meals too. There’s a small resupply for our return to the trail as well. Laundry services are up and running- just take a laundry bag, load it up and turn it in. They will wash your clothes for you.💜👏

I saw an indoor cat 🐈‍⬛ today. She follows around the daughter of the owners who is helping for the summer. The daughter runs upstairs to make a bed, and so goes the cat. Three dogs 🐕 also inhabit the place. One is a rescue. The other two are the ones on guard tho. If you cross the line on the kitchen, for example, she, the alpha dog, will let you know. They are not an issue. The chickens 🐓 are over by the shower house. They have the best outdoor showers. Very well made. Fully private with really nice hot water. Purple towels are supplied along with soap and shampoo.🧴 💜🚿

They moved us out of the private room we had last night to the outdoor bunkhouse. There’s two rooms in there. Two sets of bunk beds on one side then single beds on the other. I chose a single bed with a Buccees fleece blanket. 😉 It reminds me of an old school house.

Butterfly 🦋 and I decided just to use this hostel as home base for the next couple of days. We will slack pack 8 miles Tuesday then 10 miles Wednesday. Wednesday it’s supposed to rain again and already had the reservation in for Weary Feet. So we will just stay. Thursday, we will hike on.
